The University of Bridgeport is a private university, located 1.5 hours from NYC and 2.5 hours from Boston, MA. Our Long Island Sound campus is located in a scenic, seaside location in Bridgeport, CT. With an emphasis on jobs of the future, UB's campus features three distinct colleges: the College of Health Sciences, the College of Engineering, Business, and Education, and the College of Arts and Sciences, offering 125 career-focused undergraduate, graduate and certificate programs, with on-campus, hybrid and online curricula. Our small class sizes offer a 16:1 student to faculty ratio, and UB designs personalized programs to match student interests with career objectives. Introduction

The University of Bridgeport, also referred to as UB, is a private, independent, co-ed university located on Long Island Sound in Bridgeport, Connecticut. The institute was founded in 1927 as the Junior College of Connecticut, the first junior college chartered by any legislature in northeastern states. After a few name and status changes, it was finally renamed the University of Bridgeport in 1947. The University received the license to offer a doctoral degree in Educational Leadership (Ed.D.) in January 1979. Still today, the University of Bridgeport maintains its primary commitments and holds on to its values.

The University of Bridgeport is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC). It is also accredited by the Board of Governors of the Connecticut Department of Higher Education. UB offers a wide variety of undergraduate and graduate programs such as Accounting (B.S.), Biology (B.A., B.S.), Business Administration (B.S.), Business Administration (A.A.), Management & Industrial Relations (B.S.), World Religions (B.A.), Computer Science and Engineering (Ph.D.), Educational Leadership (Ed.D.), and Technology Management (M.S.).

The School of Continuing & Professional Studies (SCPS) at UB offers continuing education programs to adult and part-time students. These programs boosts student's career through flexible programs of study which includes undergraduate accelerated degree course; graduate and specialized degree programs, and professional development non-credit certifications. Students can choose from the day, evening, weekend, or online courses. Whether courses are taken for personal or professional enhancement, the academic division serves to help students achieve their educational goals.

Schools and Colleges:

The academic programs at the University of Bridgeport are offered through twelve schools, colleges, and institutes. The academic schools include School of Arts & Sciences; International College; School of Business; School of Engineering; Shintaro Akatsu School of Design; Fones School of Dental Hygiene; and School of Continuing and Professional Studies.

UB Online:

The University of Bridgeport has been offering online degree programs and courses in various disciplines, since 1997. You just need a computer, access to the Internet, to be able to complete your degree from the comfort of your home or office. Students can access the online classes anytime and anywhere. Some of the undergraduate and graduate online programs offered by UB are B.S. Dental Hygiene, B.S. General Studies, M.S. Dental Hygiene, M.S. Human Nutrition, M.S. Computer Science, and M.S. Technology Management.

Students

Student life at the University is vibrant, exciting, and fun. There are more than 50 active student clubs and organizations on the campus. There is something for everyone. You can either join an existing club or start a new one. The Student Government Association acts like the voice of the student body and helps to solve issues faced by students. The campus is home to the Knight's End café, which is a common meeting place of students for a cup of coffee in between classes.

The Magnus Wahlstrom Library is situated in the center of the University campus, overlooking the Long Island Sound. The library offers extensive resources and services for students enrolled in various academic programs. It features facilities like skilled library staff, rich collections of print and digital journals, books, and an attractive learning commons.

The University offers an array of housing options where the students have the choice of a single, double, double-as-single, triple, or triple as a double room accommodation. The residence halls are equipped with all the modern amenities to make residence life a pleasure for the students. The five UB residence halls are Barnum Hall, Bodine Hall, Cooper Hall, Seeley Hall, and North & South Hall.

Athletics

The University of Bridgeport sponsors various men's and women's teams in sports like baseball, basketball, softball, swimming, cross country, soccer, and volleyball. The athletic teams are nicknamed as the Purple Knights. The colors are Purple and White. UB athletes participate in the NCAA Division II, and are members of the East Coast Conference. The sports facilities at the University of Bridgeport include the Harvey Hubbell Gymnasium, Ballpark at Harbor Yard, Knights Field, Seaside Park Softball Field, and Wheeler Recreation Center.

Intramural Sports:

The recreational and sports programs at the University aim at promoting wellness among the students, faculty, staff, and the community. Various recreation and leisure activities offered at the University focus on the positive traditional and non-traditional activities. Students as well as faculty members can participate in the various intramural sports such as co-ed soccer, flag football, cricket, co-ed volleyball, spring sports, spring tournament, racquetball, and wiffleball.

Additional School Information

The University offers IDEAL Academic Degree Programs and Certificates which are designed to help students develop and demonstrate abilities in special areas such as communications, problem solving, interpersonal relations, and critical thinking skills.

The Journal Club at UB is designed to provide the students with an easy access to concepts and resources required for bibliographic research using the eBooks and full text journals offered through the digital library. Students can access these materials anytime and anywhere through Internet.

Admissions

The University of Bridgeport is known for its diverse student population from all over United States and across the world. Currently, the university is home to more than 3,000 graduate and undergraduate students among which over 800 are international students. These students represent over 90 countries and comprise 25% of the total student population.

Undergraduate and graduate students must send their official transcripts, completed forms, SAT or ACT scores and two letters of recommendations to the University. International students must submit application for admission up to twelve months in advance of the semester in which they wish to begin their studies. Some of the standardized entrance tests that the students may take include the following: TOEFL, SAT, GRE, GMAT.

Financial Aid

UB offers diverse forms of financial aid to relieve the financial burden of the students. Nearly 98% of the first time, full-time undergraduates receive financial aid and approx. 96% of all UB students are provided financial assistance. The University participates in an assortment of federal, state, and private programs that offer grants, scholarships, loans, and other awards to the students. All students seeking financial aid must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form.

Scholarships offered at UB include The Dollar Times Scholarship, B. Davis Scholarship, Degree Directory Scholarships, Abbott & Fenner Business Consultants, and Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation. The student loans offered at the University include Federal Direct Parent PLUS loan, Private Alternative Loan, and Federal Perkins Loan.
